Industrial Design Master in Milan

In order to operate in the world of design, it is necessary to adopt a perspective capable of understanding the long-standing evolution experienced by design, eventually grown into a specific profession and an independent intellectual discipline.

Today design cannot be interpreted as a stylistic technique merely giving shape to objects but is necessarily to be conceived as a complex, challenging activity which strategically contributes to direct the form and meaning of the industrial production and culturally outlines different aesthetic and social visions.

The course is structured as an exploration of research and design experiences, which not only provides the tools for “how to do” but helps each and every individual to find the reasons “why doing”.

In this perspective special attention is paid to the following aspects:
- besides the “problem solving” skill, typical of the design culture, students are encouraged to develop also a “problem setting” approach, in which the practical knowledge they have gradually acquired becomes part of the individual capability for critical elaboration;
- in-depth analysis of the poetics through the intensification of reading and the investigation of the meanings of form, icons and the image of products with a view to developing an individual expressive language;
- a personal research capability is developed necessary to complete the analysis of project themes;
- reinforcement of a design direction vocation, namely the capacity to integrate the design choices of a product or service in a broader vision of management and in a corporate strategic project reckoning with all the material and immaterial aspects of the offer (communication, distribution, service, corporate identity, relation).
